6 Key Takeaways From The Local Search Association’s Inaugural Conference.  From May, there was the inaugural Local Search Association annual conference, entitled, “Search Starts Here.” From the article:

As the theme suggests, the goal of this year’s conference was to explore how local search companies are leveraging new opportunities in online and mobile search to drive leads for local businesses.

I just noticed BIA Kelsey is now having an ILM east and ILM west next year- sweet! You can find out more details on their website.

On the ILM10 preview page,  they stated, 10 Key Questions to Be Answered at ILM:10:

1.Where is the smart money being invested in local?
2.How do you maximize local search with content and services?
3.How can geotargeting help national and regional advertisers?
4.How is social media changing local marketing?
5.What are the top local content monetization strategies?
6.What is the best role for local media companies on the Web?
7.Is hyperlocal here yet?
8.Where are mobile local apps and products headed?
9.How will mobile local products be monetized?
10.Where is Google headed in mobile advertising?

From what I read and show, I think a lot of these questions were answered.

A few nuggets that I pulled out were:

• Seeing shift to digital media
• Consumers are using more than one method to research, find products, services
• “Search and social get local and mobile”
• 14 million local reviews on Yelp

Local is growing as well as mobile and business need to realize this and take advantage of the opportunities.

Since I can’t be there and I know many of you can’t either, I am putting together this post with how we can follow all that is going on.

3. Daily Review: I have setup a daily paper of the conference, which should be published each evening this week around 11 PM EST. This paper should provide a nice overview of what is being said at the conference via Twitter and blog postings. You can access all of the full articles from the online paper. (A pretty cool service.)

4. Mobile App: For the iphone and Android markets, you can download an app that provides some basics on the conference, just search for BIA Kelsey in the respective markets. I have downloaded the Android version. It is ok but I wish it could do more….take a look and let me know what you think.

Over this week and probably next,  I plan on blogging various aspects of the meeting from the information I get. So make sure to stop by and see what is going on in Santa Clara!

 

This week I was going to highlight 2 things.

First off, PubCon 2010 : Social Media, Search, Affiliates is taking place in Las Vegas. Did not get to go to it but from the Twitter posting, looks like a great conference.  PubCon created a list of all the speakers via Twitter, you can access here. Definitely a lot going on and I expect some nice wrap-up articles in the next few days.

Second is a webinar put on by BIAKelsey, ILM:10 Preview: The Impact of Mobile on Local. This was last week and I thought was very informative.

If you have a moment, download the presentation and take a look. What the take away message is for small businesses is that social marketing is key and growing and mobile local is growing very, very quickly. In general though, you can get a lot from following conferences on Twitter, when you can’t make it. Simply follow the appropriate hasttag and you are good to go.

I contacted Martijn about his presentation and asked him what was the key point(s) that he would share. His reply,  “Most important thing is that you need to track as much as possible.  For all else, you will have to use an attribution model that fits your  business.”

Martijn also was featured in a podcast over at Webmasterradio, Using Local Search back on May 4th. Yesterday, May 25th,  they had a podcast reviewing SMX London. So if you have a few minutes check them out.

 

Mike has been in the local search arena for some time, so when he talks, people should listen. LOL I found his presentation well done and should be easy to follow. If you have read Mike previous articles online, some of this info should be familiar. Enjoy
